A Newly-Named Asteroid Called Vista??
In keeping with my monthly routine, I must write yet another entry about Vista.
If scientists discover a new asteroid, 1,000 miles in circumference, composed completely of space garbage, I think they should name it Vista.
That’s it…
Java, Here I Come!
Me and my buddy Brian at work here have decided to pick up another language. After much discussion of the crappiest, most-Vista’ish (This technique stolen from Ray Camden) languages/platforms that ever existed, we decided to go with Java instead.
To get started, you’ll need the JDK, which can be downloaded here.
I also downloaded Netbeans IDE and a bunch of tools that don’t mean much to me at the present time.
ColdFusion 8 Certification Exam – The Verdict
Yes, I’ve read Ray’s blog and related comments on the certification process. And yes, there’s a lot of controversy swirling around Adobe’s Certification exams at the present, but I really have no choice on whether to take it or not, as the company I work for likes having certified developers on staff.
I Listen to beatlesradio.com
If you’re like me, you have to listen to music while you code. I dunno … there’s just something about it that’s soothing. It’s almost the same as drinking 3 long islands, then coding ( I can build some wild shit after a few). Maybe we’ll talk about that one in another entry.

Just Purchased – CF8 Exam Buster!
Just wanted to let everyone know I just purchased Brian Simmons’ ColdFusion 8 Certification Exam Buster Software.
A few friends from work and myself are banding together to take the test in October. Exam Buster has RAVE reviews from lots of folks. Just reading all the comments about this product has given us the motivation, and a kick in the rear! I can’t wait to start practicing for this test.
I don’t know you, but thanks Brian!
Quickbooks Pro Rocks
I’ve been using Quickbooks Pro 2007 since, well, early 2007. I’d like to recommend it to anyone needing to manage their contract/freelance books.
It has an excellent time tracking program, sweet invoicing, customer management, and lots more.
I must say, it has made accounting so much easier! And it’s actually FUN to use!
If you haven’t tried it, or you aren’t happy with your current accounting practices, I’d encourage you to checkout Quickbooks Pro 2008. It’s WELL worth the money, and might get rid of all your accounting headaches.
C’mon People!
I just read a thread on our list where someone posted about a problem with backslashes in a MySQL insert statement. The solution was to <cfqueryparam> it.
Um … Earth to all ColdFusion developers. <cfqueryparam> ALL OF YOUR DAMN QUERIES ANYWAY!!
MY GOD!! Everyone’s preached this technique for eons! I swear, yes, eons!
If you STILL don’t know about this tag, you can read more here.
And if you DO know about <cfqueryparam>, and don’t use it, quit now. Just quit programming. Flip burgers. Pickup my trash.
Ugh!
A Fun Little English Test
I’ve always enjoyed taking silly little online tests, just so I could see how dumb I am, without letting anyone else know about it. Sometimes, I like to share these tests. And yes, that would only be when I do well!

Yet Another Vista Bug
I’m enjoying my monthly Vista rants, aren’t you?
Vista scrapped Outlook for the new and improved Windows Mail. This has to be one of the crappiest email clients I’ve ever used! Read more »
Coldbox/Transfer – Use Those Quotes!
I’m working on the new Coldbox 2.6/Transfer Code Scan app, and ran across something interesting.
