ColdFusion 8 Certification Exam – The Verdict
Yes, I’ve read Ray’s blog and related comments on the certification process. And yes, there’s a lot of controversy swirling around Adobe’s Certification exams at the present, but I really have no choice on whether to take it or not, as the company I work for likes having certified developers on staff.
What did I think of the exam itself? There were plenty of good questions, some OK questions, and a few just-plain-dumbly-worded questions. Hey, I can use the word “dumbly” if I want. It’s my blog! But overall, it was OK. I’m sure if I had failed, I would’ve blasted the exam for being completely incompetent.
So how did I do? Is a score of 96 good enough?
Other stats:
Total Questions: 64
Time allowed: 110 minutes
Time taken: 30-35 minutes
Number of survey questions at the beginning of the exam that totally pissed me off because I wanted to get started: Too many!
I’m officially certified “advanced” now! Yayyyyyy!
I’d like to give credit to the folks that deserve it, especially since I wouldn’t have passed without their help.

OK, that was a joke…
- House Of Fusion – I believe reading the vast amount of info on this site will improve your skills more than any other resource. Thank you Michael and Judith Dinowitz!
- Exam Buster - This exam software is essential in passing the certification exam. It was dead-on with the questions it contains. I would highly recommend that you spend a few bucks on Brian’s software. Just spend a week or two completing the exams, and you’ll be on your way to “Will Status”.
- Any of the folks you see listed in the right menu of my blog, and then some! I’ve learned a lot from these guys over the years, and you can’t beat that kind of learning experience. All of them are WAY smarter than myself, so I count on them to help me attain their skill level. I don’t want to name names because I’ll leave people out, and they’ll come after me. You know who you are, and you’re likely on my IM. Or, we work together.

Jeeeeez, you would’ve thought I just climbed Mount Everest! Well, I guess I kinda feel like I did.

Nice work Will!! Congrats
Congrats!! I did better on the cf8 exam than i did on the cf7 one. I was all excited that i got an advanced grade this time, but they don’t have it anymore, which was a bit of a let down
Nicely done!! Way to rock it.
Way to go, Will.
Nice Job! But next time try for a 100%. 96% is unacceptable in my book.
lol… you missed some.
Congratulations!
I’m not a fan of certifications myself but getting a high score like that is definitely an achievement.
Wow you did great Will Glad to hear you still have that great since of humor. You are now going on to higher mountians.
congrats man.
i’ll mirror what sean said about the score. anybody can pass (i’m living proof, having done it twice). but to score a 96% is certainly something to be proud of.
way to go son
This is in reference to Simon’s comment about the Advanced status being removed. It was, but Adobe apparently has decided to add it back in. This was blogged about recently on Kristen Scholfield’s blog:

Hey Purva,
. Yes, i am experienced in CF though.
Just concentrate maximum on the Adobe site livedocs. I passed CF8 exam this month with 90%. I prepared for only about a month, amidst long work hours in office
I suggest you concentrate/revise on the following list after you have mastered the livedocs.
(1). CFC – attributes.
(2).
(3). any tag that returns Query object.
(4). new tags introduced in CF8 (<cfimage action='captcha',etc)
(5). Exception handling using , the exception types.
